Journal Prompts for the Astrological New Year and Spring Equinox
Who doesn’t love a fresh new start, the feeling of a new beginning? If you don’t vibe with January 1, maybe you resonate more with the Astrological New Year starting on 20th March.
The astrological new year happens when the sun moves into the first zodiac sign of Aries.
It’s a great time to tune into what intentions you’d like to bring into this cycle ahead.
Astrology is all about cycles and patterns and I find it so useful to work with these, just like when looking at a weather report. The fact that astrological new year is the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere gives it even more of that new beginning feels. But even if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere you’ll still feel the striving forward energy of Aries which loves starting new things and has a pioneering spirit that we can all embody at this time of year especially.
A good place to start is to reflect on what you wrote in your journal prompts for Winter Solstice and then take time to refine.
Which things feel relevant, what has changed, how have you moved foward?
What new dreams are stirring inside you?
Which old dreams are ready to be pruned to make way for the new ones?
What do you feel like starting now? Go with the energy that feels alive and current, rather than trying to live our past dreams.
The astrological new year in 2023 is a BIG one. Any new cycle is always a big deal, but this year we have several other huge new cycles and transits which makes this feel so much bigger.
We have a new moon at 0” Aries straight away = basically this is as big as a new start you could hope for! A new moon initiates new beginnings and that it’s at the very beginning of Aries makes it feel even more of a new beginning! The next new moon after this we’ll be in Eclipse Season which is a void time for manifesting - so there’s even extra reason to tune in now and take this opportunity.
Saturn just moved into Pisces, a big shift in energy from the last five years. This a big new chapter for us.
Pluto is moving into Aquarius, a sign it’s not been in since the 1700’s so that is a HUGE new chapter, as it will be in Aquarius for 20 years (there will be a retrograde back into Capricorn, but the overall shift into Aquarius is a big signal for change).
There’s a ton of other astrology happening right now too. So you may feel squeezed, you may feel great - as always it depends what you’ve been doing up until now.
I will say, that at this time of new year many people want Spiritual Experiences to get the visual, the download the insights the “aha” moment, but have you been doing your meditation, your breathwork, your inner work? Often we want the Spiritual experience, but we haven’t done the ground work (Saturn in Pisces).
When that happens it’s easy for us to fall into into victimhood and overwhelm right now. it’s tempting to spiritually bypass using substances of any kind, but instead you can choose to lean in and do the work, empower your being, rather than feeling “why are they doing this to me” who is they? The more that we take radical responsibility right now, and do what we can, the better we’ll fair.
Here are some other points to reflect on. I feel these are important given that Saturn has just move into Pisces and is very much flavouring the energy of this new year.
How are you going to empower yourself?
What dreams are you ready to finally make happen?
What spiritual practices do you want to commit to?
What training do you need to be competent and successful in these spiritual practices?
Even though spirituality is ‘natural’ and ‘innate’ to us we still need to learn practices. This is the Saturn influence in Pisces right now - creating structure, learning from teachers, building mastery thorugh daily practice. This is the gift to supercharge your dreams over this next astrolgoical new year.
There are loads of meditations in my free Spiritual Nutrition course. It’s also a lovely day to do space clearing rituals.
I hope you find these journal prompts helpful.
