My Perspective On Spiritual Health In Our Society

In a moment of deep reflection the other day I realised that the health of our overall society is treated in much the same as our individual health - they look at symptoms without addressing the core issue...

When someone is not well we lock them up, ostracise them, throw hate at them, and try to put them out of sight.

We give them pills that big pharma makes money from and private jails that are also there to likely make money.

It doesn’t seem that jails make people better, make better citizens...

The tabloids make money for sharing and shaming those who are not well which doesn't help anything either.

Basically this is another way our society makes money from sickness.

“There is nothing healthy about being well adapted to a profoundly sick society” J Krishnamurti

Out with the old…

Do people “get better” in jail? Do celebrities “get better” from accusations and shaming. I can think of 2 celebrities who’ve recently committed suicide when facing trial. Neither were convicted, but the ongoing onslaught from the media and everyone being a judge seemed like it was too much.

Social media is now where people go to watch lynchings and it makes me sick. Everyone lears in over the gossip, hungry to throw hate at people they don’t know anything about. It’s merely entertainment to them.

It’s old paradigm.

What about looking for the core issue?!

At the bottom of it, even if someone is guilty and has done something wrong, what about asking why?

This is what a lot of indigenous tribes did, they didn’t ostracise each other. One african tribe brings that person in the centre of their circle and sings their birth song to them, to align their true self and to remember  their divinity.

In our modern society what about more therapy, meditation, CBT, support, understanding, non violent communication and so many other modalities being available to support mental emotional and spiritual health

A rehabilitation.

I believe it’s because some profit from us fighting divided and socially sick.

Just like our individual health - big companies don’t make money if we get sunshine, eat well, exercise and meditate. I don’t want this to be an us and them conversation, it’s more about what we can do as individuals to shape the health of our society.

THIS is what we need to look at now - because so much coming up this year - we say we want to “be kind” but only when it suits us.

It’s about awareness. It’s about deciding what we want the health of our society to look like.

As within, so without

When you go deep enough into meditation you experience oneness, you understand that by hurting others you only hurt yourself  - we need to rehabilitate our society, our communities,  to help those who are in need or mentally emotionally spiritually sick rather than pushing them away.

For anyone who’s done any inner work you know pushing things away does nothing except creating more darkness.

Everything has to be brought to the light, with love.

A willingness to help, to heal, to become while rather than divided, split and sick.

Let’s try to always see things from others point of view, that when people are acting out they are in a desperate need of love and connection and are struggling with themselves in trying to find that.
