How to become addicted to meditation instead of being addicted to social media (The Social Dilemma)
Why do we become so addicted to things in life. All of us are addicted to something - sometimes a certain type of food, alcohol, drugs, people, sex, attention, and social media.
All these things give us dopamine hits and that’s what we get a addicted to.
The way around this is ALWAYS increasing our spiritual health, our connection with our truest self.
When we can retrain our attention to turn inwards more than outwards there is an inner treasure.
The struggle is trying to keep this balance. The idea is not to renounce life - but become STRONGER so that the lures of life aren’t controlling us. Once we give more power to this inner Consciousness Awareness then it starts to call the shots rather than our mind.
In the Bhagavad Gita this is the analogy of Anjuna and the chariot and horses. If the horses (desires) are in charge then the chariot will go in all directions and is unlikely to have a smooth ridge (probably quite bumpy!).
Whereas if the driver (Consciousness Awareness) is in control of the horses it can decide which direction to go.
Our role in modern spirituality is to BE in life, but not let life overtake us.
My answer to this, is to become “Addicted To Being” hence me naming my 7 week meditation course this.
