When life feels challenging, read this..

The quote below is from A. H. Almaas and one that Dr Gabor Mate shares in the Compassionate Inquiry training that I’m doing with him right now.

“Your conflicts, all the difficult things, the problematic situations in your life are not chance or haphazard. They are actually yours. They are specifically yours, designed specifically for you by a part of you that loves you more than anything else. The part of you that loves you more than anything else has created roadblocks to lead you to yourself. You are not going in the right direction unless there is something pricking you in the side, telling you, “Look here! This way!” That part of you loves you so much that it doesn’t want you to lose the chance. It will go to extreme measures to wake you up, it will make you suffer greatly if you don’t listen. What else can it do? That is its purpose.”

― A.H. Almaas

I find reading this so touching. In fact the whole course process is amazing. One of the interesting things when you start working with other people is seeing all the situations people have had to go through. All the challenges and pain. The ways they’ve had to adapt to survive and then breaking free from those adaptations which often become suffocating to us as adults.

In our weekly triads we practice the skills with each other and swap groups regularly. So I’ve had the honor of sitting with about 15 other people and being amazed at all of us having to deal with so much in life.

Before I was in this line of work I realised

  1. That I had minimised my own childhood traumas. Now I can see them, the reasons behind my self limiting beliefs and my relationship patterns are so clear. Seeing and acknowledging those parts of me have been so healing.

  2. Everybody has ‘stuff’. Even with the most perfect childhood there are times that we receive messaging that we are not enough, or can’t trust the world, or feel we need to be different to fit in/be loved.

  3. Having a visceral experience of the “part of us that loves us more than anything else” is so healing. My interpretation of this is my individual being, my soul, that deepest self that I access in meditation. When I experience that I feel so held, so guided, so empowered and stronger. Knowing that, that part if guiding me and giving me strength to move through things that I need to move through for my own growing.

And so since I love this quote and it helps me so much, I want to share it with you too. If would also like my support in working through areas of life that involve your spirituality, personal growth and working through self limiting beliefs then you can get in touch about 1-2-1 Spiritual Mentoring with me.
