Meditation and Astrology
I wanted to write out this post as I often talk about astrology before my meditation classes as it’s such an integral part of life and being human and impacts us deeply. I use this astro ‘weather’ to often tune into the best techniques that I think will be able to help us sink more into our divinity during the meditation. I am not an astrologer - but the teachings of astrology have been deeply intertwined with a lot of my spiritual lessons - understanding the microcosm in the macrocosm and my mentor was very interested in cosmobiology.
A lot of people use the energy for manifesting meditations or visualisations, but I use it more as keys to access our inner divinity. This is often how I explain meditation and astrology in the beginning of my sessions...
I think we are all interested in astrology as we are all children of the stars.
Even science has agreed for a long time that we are all stardust!
Beyond that every single traditional culture has creation legends that we are from the stars.
As much as there’s been a recent (last hundred years) war between astronomy and astrology, I think it’s getting harder for anyone to truly hold up that the stars don’t affect us.
When I studied marine biology and saw how the moon affected the tides there was no way to think that it didn’t affect us as 70-80% water…
In all cultures, healing has been focused around the elements - water, space, fire, earth, air - we use these elements to talk about how we can balance ourselves.
In astrology these elements are also used to describe qualities of the planets and houses - e.g cardinal fire, mutable fire, fixed fire….
When the planets move they impact the associated elements within us (an oversimplification!). The planets have been said to rule different organs and body parts, thoughts, feelings and emotions.
So everything in this world is a microcosm of the macrocosm we all contain energies from the stars and planet and when they move it affects us all differently.
The point I want to make is that the movement of the planets affects our human aspects the part of us that exist in this time and space of reality with the rest of the material in the universe
However it does not affect our eternal aspect which is beyond - our being.
When we go deep into meditation we go beyond everything in this world and this universe to the very centre of it all - the void, the nothingness, the shunya.
In meditation we can tune back into that place of oneness, clarity, be refreshed and recharged so that we can embody that energy for our ‘earth missions’.
Now learning meditation to me is being able to balance or ‘quieten’ the human aspect - the thoughts, emotions, body irritations, so you can tune into the more subtle aspect of the being.
Astrology will affect the human aspect - how we feel, think, act etc, so working with the astrological weather can give clues as to what meditation techniques might best serve us to balance our human side, so we are more able to access the subtle qualities of our being.
Of course after time people learn to embody both the human and the being aspects together as we do this thing called life on earth. But we need to walk before we run yes? And connecting deeply in meditation FIRST to really create an identification with it for me has been a really important part of my path. Once you can sit in meditation and go into yourself, then after time you can bring that down and deeply embody it. That is our mission as human beings - to embody the divine - to bring ‘heaven’ on earth.
But this my love, is my viewpoint. Before a class I see where the moon and the sun are - and use those energies to see what techniques I feel will work for us best to go deep.
I keep the astro energy for the classes simple mostly - ie the New Moon in Leo energy. If you want to find out more you can do so here.
If there’s a super big event or complex astro happening these are my favourite go-to astrologers….
