Modern Spirituality and Sensitivity to Religious Beliefs

I find that we are in a time where people are sometimes separating spirituality and religion, where is religions are types of spirituality. Of course, some people have felt to move away from organised religions. But in their original essence, all religions have a very very spiritual origin which was downloaded by a certain master at the time. Jesus and Buddha being two examples.

When you look into the essence of any religion there is so much wisdom, which is why people feel naturally drawn to it. What has become an issue is the use of region to control, that the religion creates new rules which weren’t part of the original ‘download’, and whilst the essence of the religion is helpful, often it doesn’t all for the changes in modern society and how peoples minds work today.

When I work with people, I always ask about their cultural religious beliefs. Some people are curious about if they work with the spiritual mentor, am I going to be forcing my beliefs upon them. This is certainly not the case.

The spirituality that I have learnt and embodied runs through all religions. So I’m always culturally sensitive to ask my clients, what are their current religious beliefs, rituals, ceremonies, which words do they prefer to use.

And often within that existing framework we work together on bringing about an extra level of self-awareness, or whatever it is that we happen to be working on for them. This makes the work start to feel more integrated, rather than adding something completely different on top.

When we learn new things the best way is to integrate it into what we already have.

I believe this is a really important conversation because otherwise people feel that spirituality is just a new age thing that is against religion, whereas religions are a part of spirituality.

I feel this is a very important conversation and something that doesn’t get spoken about enough as it’s the type of conversation that can be triggering for many - especially as in the case of region it has been about focusing on differences between regions rather than similarities and that has created so much war.

If you have deep connections to your cultural religion, but you’re curious about doing some of the work that I share about on my account. Please know that that will be very much taken into consideration and honoured within our sessions.
